USA 2001!!!
... Here are the pictures from our trip to the US in June 2001.
Minnesota..
... was our first stop.
| A day visit to the William O'Brien State Park |
Sunset before the storm |
| Us canoeing for a while on the lake behind the House |
It took Vicky half an hour to take this picture! |
Montana...
...or "Big Sky Country" as they like to call their place, was
the next stop.
| Our first stop was in Red Lodge where we were surprised by snow (yes, this was in June!) |
From Red Lodge we drove through the Paradise Valley... |
| ... to Gardiner our base from where we explored the Yellowstone Park |
Yellowstone
The first day in Yellowstone we did the grand loop
| Still lots of snow on the mountains and that water does not invite for a refreshing dip (even after long hot day, Lydia) |
Scenes from our drive |
| ... and even more |
Mammoth Hot Springs: hot water bubling from the depths of the earth, leaving strange rock formations behind as it cools off |
Everywhere there are signs of the earth's inner heat coming to the surface Here: a mud pot |
Geyser teritory... |
| ...the sulfur smell didn't make onto the film (thank god!) |
Unbelievable colours - created by different bacteria that live at different temperatures |
| This one is called "Black Pool" - it is quite a bit prettier than Englands version on the west coast |
The Yellowstone lake... |
| ... more lake |
Wildlife
It is just amazing how much and close one can see the wild life
in Yellowstone.
| Elk... |
A normal squirrel (munching a pine cone) and ground squirrels |
| "Doe, a deer, a female deer..." |
Mrs Bear (that black thing in the branches) had problems getting down from that tree again... ...while Mr Bear was chivalrous enough to pretend that he didn't notice her clumsiness |
| That's them again (on a different day). |
Canyon area...
... lies in the east of Yelowstone. We did a medium hike along
the southern rim:
| First stop: Tower falls |
This was our picnic spot (getting energy for the longer walk), overlooking the Yellowstone |
| Lower falls |
Lots of rainbows to be seen near the waterfalls |
| Lower falls, seen from Artist point |
Leaving...
Far too soon we had to leave...
| Pilot Peak in the distance |
Fortunately the Beartooth Pass reopened shortly before we left Yellowstone 11000 feet up - there is snow all year round up there |
| Rock Creek Canyon |
Back to Red Lodge, on our way to meet Rob & Donna in Billings |
| After our canoeing trip we visited Cody, Wyoming |
Canoeing...
... don't forget to look at our canoeing pictures from "floating" the
Missuouri that are on a separate page.
